what's eCash?
eCash is a scalable layer-1 blockchain designed as peer-to-peer electronic cash for the internet. It enables instant, virtually free transactions with opt-in privacy features, micropayments, and DeFi capabilities. Originally forked from Bitcoin Cash ABC and rebranded, eCash uses XEC as its native token for transaction fees, staking rewards, and network security. The protocol employs Avalanche consensus for rapid pre- and post-consensus finality, making blocks irreversible and protecting against attacks through proof-of-work combined with stake-weighted nodes. This hybrid approach supports high throughput while maintaining decentralization, with innovations like CashTokens for native assets and Firma for stablecoins with yield generation.
