what's Unruggable?

Unruggable is an independent research and development project dedicated to scaling the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) ecosystem across Layer 2 chains and Ethereum mainnet. They develop open-source tools like Unruggable Gateways, which provide a flexible virtual machine and API for fetching and verifying data from EVM-compatible rollups on L1 Ethereum. This enables trustless ENS name resolution from L2s, supporting cross-chain identity, interoperable addresses (e.g., alice.eth@chain), and features critical for ENSv2's hierarchical registry on an L2 authoritative chain. Key contributions include ENSIP-24 for arbitrary data resolution in resolver profiles, L2 subname registration systems for projects like uni.eth and base.eth, and protocol engineering for CCIP-Read gateways. Unruggable collaborates with ENS Labs, Ethereum Foundation, and L2 teams on interoperability, such as on.eth chain registrations, while offering services and public goods to enhance ENS adoption for users, dApps, and wallets.
