what's The Currency?
The Currency is an innovative NFT collection created by British artist Damien Hirst and presented by HENI, launched in July 2021. It comprises 10,000 unique NFTs minted on the Palm blockchain (with Ethereum compatibility), each paired with a corresponding hand-painted spot artwork from Hirst's 2016 Colour Space series, termed a "Tender." Buyers initially received the NFT and had one year to choose between retaining the digital asset or redeeming the physical piece, with the alternative being ceremonially burned. This mechanism probes the essence of art versus currency, value, and belief systems. Physical Tenders feature anti-counterfeiting elements like holograms, watermarks, and blockchain provenance, while NFT titles are AI-generated from song lyrics, and rarities assessed via machine learning. Post-decision, exhibitions displayed all works with public burnings. Holders received perks such as airdropped NFTs from Hirst's Great Expectations series, merchandise, and events. The Currency Oracle integrates Chainlink for real-time on-chain pricing, enabling DeFi uses like lending and prediction markets.
The Currency NFT collection has a floor price of 0.87 ETH ($1,875).
