what's Sia?
Sia is a decentralized cloud storage network that enables users to rent and provide storage space in a peer-to-peer marketplace. Hosts offer unused hard drive space, while renters upload encrypted file shards across multiple hosts for redundancy and privacy. Smart contracts on the Sia blockchain ensure payments and storage proofs, with disputes resolved automatically. The network uses Siacoin (SC) as its native cryptocurrency for transactions. Files are split into 10 shards with erasure coding (30 shards total for 10x redundancy), downloadable from any 10/30. Skynet adds a decentralized hosting layer for websites and apps, promoting censorship resistance and low costs compared to centralized providers.
