what's SeedSigner?
SeedSigner is an open-source, air-gapped Bitcoin transaction signing device that users can build themselves using inexpensive components like a Raspberry Pi Zero and a small LCD display. It enables secure, offline signing of Bitcoin transactions without relying on internet-connected hardware, reducing risks from malware or remote attacks. The project emphasizes self-sovereignty, allowing individuals to create and manage seed phrases via dice rolls, camera entropy, or manual entry, with all sensitive data handled in volatile memory that wipes upon power-off. Key features include QR code-based input and output for transactions and seeds (SeedQR format), support for BIP39 seeds, no WiFi/Bluetooth/USB data transfer, and compatibility with various Bitcoin wallets. Assembly is straightforward with guided instructions, and the software is flashed to a removable SD card to prevent persistent storage of secrets. Maintained by volunteers, it's listed on bitcoin.org as hardware and promotes verifiable, trust-minimized Bitcoin custody.
SeedSigner now supports BlackBerry trackpad control via custom source code changes for full functionality.
