what's OPCraft?
OPCraft is a fully on-chain 3D voxel world where every terrain feature, block, and player action—such as mining, crafting, building, and terraforming—is stored and updated directly on the Ethereum blockchain through transactions. Built by Lattice using the open-source MUD engine, it features procedurally generated infinite landscapes divided into claimable 16x16 chunks owned by staking rare resources. Players interact via custom clients like NOA (Babylon.js-based), enabling real-time state syncing, collaborative play, and emergent behaviors without central servers. Launched as a proof-of-concept on the OP Stack for high throughput, OPCraft's two-week public playtest in October 2022 saw over 1,500 players generate 3.5 million transactions, forming player-driven societies, governments, and economies on-chain. The fully open-source codebase allows deployment on any EVM-compatible chain, with frozen playtest worlds preserved for viewing, demonstrating autonomous world mechanics.
OPCraft, a MUD game, was mentioned in Lattice's shutdown announcement.
