what's Minos?
Minos is the foundational layer of decentralized genomics, operating as Subnet 107 on the Bittensor network. It addresses the critical bottleneck in variant calling—the process of translating raw DNA sequencing data into accurate mutation detections essential for precision medicine. By injecting synthetic mutations into gold-standard reference genomes, Minos generates challenges every 72 minutes. Miners worldwide compete using CPU-based pipelines (no GPU required initially) to detect these variants precisely, while validators reproduce and score outputs in isolated containers against known truth, distributing emissions meritocratically. The protocol evolves through phased development: Phase 1 optimizes hyperparameters of existing tools; Phase 2 enables custom algorithm submissions; Phase 3 aggregates top performers into a consensus AI model outperforming any single caller; Phase 4 incorporates real clinical datasets; and Phase 5 deploys at scale. This fosters the world's largest validated synthetic genome database, enabling reliable infrastructure for hospitals, biobanks, pharma, and AI training on genomic data, all with transparent, unbiased verification and zero central failure points.
