what's Keet?

Keet is a decentralized, peer-to-peer messaging and video chat application designed to operate without central servers, emails, or phone numbers. Built on the open-source Holepunch framework, it enables direct device-to-device communication using advanced networking techniques like holepunching to establish connections behind firewalls. This architecture ensures end-to-end encryption, fault tolerance, and scalability for large groups, rooms, and file sharing, making it resistant to censorship and downtime. The app supports features like voice and video calls, live streaming, and unlimited file transfers via swarming, all coordinated purely P2P. Keet integrates cryptocurrency functionalities, such as Bitcoin Lightning Network payments for in-chat transactions, and has potential for USDT and XAUT support, blending secure communication with financial tools. Recent upgrades, like version 4.5, introduce client-side validated quorums, multisig (autobase), and key rotation for robust user device management across multiple devices. As part of the broader push for unstoppable apps, Keet aims to free users from Big Tech dependencies, with mobile apps in development and a plugin marketplace planned. Its "blind peers" system uses contact lists as a personal network for message routing, ensuring privacy and efficiency without intermediaries.
