what's Grease?

Grease is a proof-of-concept implementation of payment channels designed specifically for Monero, enabling instant and highly scalable off-chain peer-to-peer payments while preserving Monero's privacy and security properties. It utilizes a ZK-rollup chain for off-chain state management, 2-of-2 multisig wallets for funding, zero-knowledge SNARK proofs to validate balance updates without revealing details, and a Key Escrow Service for secure recovery. Channels are created via P2P negotiation over libp2p, funded on-chain, and settled back to Monero's base layer upon closure, minimizing on-chain footprint for enhanced scalability and ephemerality.
