EthBoy is a pioneering programmable NFT artwork co-created by crypto artists Trevor Jones and Alotta Money. It portrays Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin as a harlequin figure whose suit color, background, and elements dynamically evolve daily based on real-time data from Ethereum's price fluctuations, Bitcoin price, and ETH gas fees. This generative mechanism ties the artwork directly to the crypto market's volatility, creating a living digital piece that reflects the ecosystem's state—from bullish green skies to bearish red depths. Launched in 2020 on Async Art, EthBoy set records as the highest USD-value NFT sale at the time (260 ETH). It unfolds across ten chapters covering six-month periods, with mini-animations of its changes auctioned as separate NFTs on OpenSea. Profits from these are shared among creators and owner, funding further development. Hosted on Ethereum, it exemplifies early blockchain art integrating external data oracles for perpetual evolution.
