what's BuilderNet?
BuilderNet is a decentralized block building network designed for Ethereum, aimed at enhancing the protocol's censorship resistance and reducing centralization in block production. Launched by Flashbots, it operates using Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to securely construct and propose blocks while sharing Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) revenues with the broader community. By decentralizing the block-building process, BuilderNet counters the risks posed by centralized builders, promoting a more transparent and equitable ecosystem for Ethereum validators and users. The network functions through a permissioned model where operators are vetted and run on approved cloud providers, ensuring reliability and security via TEEs. This setup allows for collaborative block production without compromising on decentralization principles, though it distinguishes between permissioned operations and fully permissionless systems. BuilderNet serves as an open-progress initiative, inviting community contributions to further evolve Ethereum's infrastructure.
BuilderNet completed 2nd Flashbots/Chainbound collaboration on latency, performance, and networking.
Completed second collaboration with Flashbots and Chainbound focused on latency reduction, performance optimization, and networking improvements.
Version 1.6 releases with focus on consolidation, performance, and protocol readiness; Fusaka upgrade completes successfully.
Security vulnerability in TEEs does not impact operations as the platform restricts operators to vetted cloud environments, ensuring no user funds or data at risk. Project reveals ongoing work on TTEEs and plans to move beyond cloud infrastructure model.
